Bound, dust hardcover, original editor's jacket in colours, 16.7x23.5 cm., 351 pp., illustrations in b/w and in colours. ISBN 0706405188. Rocks and minerals have always held a dual appeal for man - as objects of fascination and beauty and for their historic and scientific interest. The 400 photographs in this encyclopedia are therefore both a visual pleasure and also an essential means of identification. The text describes for the layman and the collector of many aspects of rocks and minerals - formation, location, history, cultural and technological uses. Marginal notes list the main physical and chemical characteristics of the minerals and line drawings illustrate their structures. 1250 g.
