The first (only?) 19 issues of The Independent, A Weekly Journal published in Reading, Pennsylvania and edited by Edward Carroll. Volume 1, No. 1 is from September 14,1875; Volume 1, No. 19 is January 18. 1896. The issues were bound with the front wrappers (they are now disbound). Each issue is illustrated with a photographic portrait of some Reading worthy of the period. Each issue is 8 pages. Advertisement, mostly from Reading businesses, on the verso of the front wrapper of each issue. "The Independent will freely discuss municipal, state, national and foreign questions. It's aim is to be independent in reality as well as in name, and never to exceed the limits of journalistic courtesy." Uncommon. Seller Inventory # 264806
