xii, 420 pages. Hardcover: H 17.25cm x L 11cm. Brown cloth with embossed decoration, quite bright gilt stamped spine lettering; light spotting to front board, corners and spine ends bumped. Berwick, England Stationer's ticket affixed at bottom right of front pastedown. Many leaves remain uncut at their top edge. Closed horizontal tear to page 1 but with no loss of paper. 165 illustrations indexed at rear. Contents divided into four sections: I - EGGS OF INSECTS, II - LARVAE, III - PUPAE, IV - PERFECT INSECTS. Apparently issued as the second volume in a three volume set, the first volume being titled "Insect Architecture" and the third volume being "Insect Miscellanies" which is described on page 416 as being comprised of "many Miscellaneous facts . . . with directions for the collection and preservation of Insects for purposes of study; and a popular account of the various Systems of Classification."
