ISEB Common Pre-Tests Challenge Papers: Three Advanced 11+ Mock Test Sets in English, Maths, Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning for Years 5–6 (Ages 9–11), with Fully Explained Answers

Three demanding practice sets, all four sections at the real timings, for confident candidates who already score well on standard 11+ papers.

The ISEB Common Pre-Tests are adaptive: a child who answers well is given harder questions, so a strong candidate spends much of the test on difficult material. This book gives that child plenty of demanding practice, so that hard questions on the day feel normal rather than alarming.

What’s inside

• Three full sets, each with English (40 questions, 40 minutes), Maths (42, 40 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (32, 25 minutes) and Non-Verbal Reasoning (30, 30 minutes): 432 questions in all
• Three rising levels: Set 1 Advanced, Set 2 Expert, Set 3 Summit
• Maths built on multi-step problems: reverse percentages, ratio changes, simple equations and questions that need a plan before any calculating. The few Extension questions that go beyond Year 5 content are clearly marked
• English with denser, older-style passages and finer distinctions, plus cloze, shuffled-sentence and error-spotting items
• Verbal Reasoning with rarer vocabulary, choose-two items and layered codes
• Non-Verbal Reasoning with overlay and counting matrices, position codes, silhouettes from a given viewpoint, unfamiliar cube nets, and fold-and-punch with shaped holes and diagonal folds
• A full explanation for every question, naming the step or trap that decides it
• Score grids that tag every question with a chapter code, turning wrong answers into a revision list for Books 1–4
• Simulation instructions that recreate the test’s no-going-back rule on paper

Who it’s for

Children in Years 5 and 6 (ages 9–11) who already do well on standard practice papers and are aiming at the most selective independent senior schools, and the parents supporting them. Best used in the final few months, once the core techniques are secure.
