Add to basket8vo. Pale blue cloth with dark blue lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xiv, 300pp. Front endpaper map, numerous illustrations. Near fine/very good. Jacket age toned and edgeworn, with tiny chips at extremities -- but complete and fairly attractive nonetheless. Second printing of the 1950 second edition of the very first of the famed "American Guide Series," the scarce 1937 Idaho. Although not credited, Idaho was penned largely by Vardis Fisher. This sharp copy bears a unique frontispiece: Tipped to blank leaf facing the title page is a First Day Cover celebrating issuance of the 3-cent "50th Anniversary Idaho 1890-1940" stamp -- 6½" X 3½", postally cancelled in Boise, Idaho on 3 July 1940 and with "First Day of Issue" so stamped. Single example of this stamp at upper right and leftmost half of envelope filled with blue and red printed decorative cachet that notes at bottom "Pilgrim Cachets, Bergenfield, New Jersey / John Alden (R.C.D. 263), Sponsor" -- and typed recipient name/address at lower center of cachet sponsor John Alden of Bergenfield, New Jersey! Laid into the envelope are two postal promotional cards regarding this stamp. Quite an unusual copy.
