An Idea About My Dead Uncle

In K.R. Wilson's An Idea About My Dead Uncle, a young, mixed-race composer grapples with his identity and a longing for his Chinese heritage. Raised without meaningful connections to that part of himself, he embarks on a journey to China in search of his long-missing uncle, who vanished in the aftermath of Tiananmen Square. This novel explores:

• The complexities of cultural identity
• The impact of family secrets
• The power of artistic expression as a means of healing

Winner of the Guernica Prize, this witty and sharp-edged story delves into the surreal as the protagonist's quest for self leads him through relationship disasters and across geographical boundaries. An Idea About My Dead Uncle is a compelling exploration of the identities we choose and the ones that are imposed on us, perfect for readers interested in literary fiction and multicultural experiences.

K.R. Wilson was born in Calgary and lives in Toronto. An Idea About My Dead Uncle, the winner of the 2018 Guernica Prize for Literary Fiction, grew out of the journey he and his wife made to China to adopt their daughter, and the research into Chinese history and culture that it inspired.
