These two books - - both measuring 5.375 x 8.0 - - are the 1968 second edition by Charles Scribner and Company of New York as stated on the title page. This two volume set is covered in brick red cloth with beveled edges and with a gilt emblem of Homer on the front cover and clean, clear gilt lettering and design on the two spines. This set together is in very good condition with definite time and shelf wear showing especially on the bottom edges of both volumes where the cloth has worn a bit and even worn through on one edge and one corner - - with one book having it worn through on an edge and one worn through on a corner but beyond that the bindings are in near fine condition and overall the covers are very good for their age. The interior again shows time wear with a previous owner?s penciled name on the ffep and with that same owner?s name penciled on page 34 of the text with the notation ?Wm. Boyne Sacramento 1869.? Beyond that there is little of additional conditioning to mention with the overall text blocks in very good condition with just a touch of age toning to the pages. Volume One does show a two-inch tear to the middle of the ffep but curiously the tear does not extend through the page. Overall these two volumes are in very nice condition and contain a six-page preface in Volume One and two pages of ads at the rear of Volume Two. A nice set.
