The book's title page lays claim to a range of disciplines-- arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, geography, cosmography, music, physics, architecture, "optica, catoptrica" (cf. Hero of Alexandria), and "sciotetica"; but in practical terms, the volume combines the fields of mercantile arithmetic, recreational mathematics, and popular science. With extensive in-text illustrations, the work outlines entertaining tricks, problems, riddles and puzzles based on various branches of mathematics. It also covers subjects like card tricks; calendrical calculations; constructing scales, clocks, sun dials, levers and pullies; astronomy; magnetism; surveying; military mechanics and gunpowder; fireworks; conjuring tricks; and more.B2289 - mathematica - wiskunde - wetenschap - spellen - aritmetiek - geïllustreerd - kaart truc - Leurechon.…
