Published in 1877. An illustrated supplement to the 1875 book by the same author. Composed of 51 leaves containing 77 pages with copper engraved illustrations showing 160+ images, cloth boards, cord tied, spine uncovered, large oblong 8vo (6 3/4 x 11 in). The book is composed of 51 leaves (title page plus preface plus 49 leaves with illustrations). Most illustrated leaves are printed front and back. Aside from the preface and the captions to the illustrations, there is no text. ~ Condition. The covers are in Poor condition. The front cover is detached. Both covers have the cloth missing in spots and raveling along the edge. The decoration on the covers is only visible when viewed at an angle and then is only faint. Internally the book is in Good condition. There is waterstaining which is confined primarily to the front and back and the area off the plates in the area of the spine. The plates are basically clean. Because the pages were not separated/protected by tissue guards, image foxing on adjacent pages is prevalent. A few pages have tears but none extend into the image area. There is no listing of illustrations so it is not possible for me to confirm all pages are present. However, I see no evidence that pages have been removed. ~~ More information, to include digital pictures, available on request.
