The Immortals (Forgotten Thrones History Collection)

The Immortals were the legendary elite warriors of the Persian Empire, an army of ten thousand whose numbers never seemed to diminish. Feared by their enemies and fiercely loyal to the Great King, they stood at the center of one of history's greatest military powers.

In The Immortals: Persia's Elite Army and the Making of an Empire, James P. Patterson explores the rise of the Achaemenid Empire, the leadership of Cyrus the Great, Darius I, and Xerxes, and the military institution that helped shape the ancient world. Drawing from ancient sources, archaeology, and modern historical research, this book separates myth from history to reveal the organization, discipline, and legacy of Persia's most famous warriors.

From the rise of an empire to the battles of Marathon, Thermopylae, and Salamis, this is the story of the men who stood at the heart of Persian power.

James P. Patterson is the creator of Forgotten Thrones TV, a cinematic history brand focused on the psychology of ancient warfare, discipline, and command. His work explores how civilizations such as Sparta and Rome engineered human behavior to create soldiers capable of enduring fear, pain, and pressure beyond ordinary limits.

Through his books and visual storytelling, Patterson examines the systems behind legendary armies not just how they fought, but how they were trained to think, obey, and survive. His writing emphasizes restraint, structure, and the hidden mechanisms of power that shaped the ancient world.

The Spartan Who Never Smiled continues this exploration, revealing how emotional discipline became one of the most effective weapons in Spartan warfare.
