The Impossible Depth

A legendary escape. A 60-year lie. One man determined to uncover the truth beneath the waves.

1. The HMS Perseus strikes a mine and sinks to the bottom of the Ionian Sea. Of the sixty-one men on board, only one—Stoker John Capes—claims to have surfaced from the abyss. But the British Admiralty calls him a liar. They say a human being cannot survive a DIY escape from such "impossible depths."

For decades, Capes’s heroism is dismissed as a tall tale, leaving him to die in obscurity, branded a fraud by the history books.

Enter Frost.

A man who lives in the data. An expert in the lethal physics of the deep who can read the hidden signals others miss. When a mysterious file arrives at his desk in the frozen port of Murmansk, Frost realizes that the "official record" is a cage built of faulty logic and broken instruments.

Driven by a relentless need for the truth, Frost must deconstruct a sixty-year-old mystery. From the archives of war-torn Greece to the haunting wreckage 52 meters below the surface, The Impossible Depth is a gripping, high-stakes intellectual journey.

In the tradition of Robert Harris and Frederick Forsyth, Cornelis van Houte delivers a masterfully researched techno-thriller that proves that while records may lie, the physics of the deep never does.

Dr. Cornelis van Houte, ex-Navy, is a military consultant for PMCs in Africa and Eastern-Europe.
