Improving Flood Management, Prediction and Monitoring: Case Studies in Asia (Community, Environment and Disaster Risk Management, 20)

This volume presents chapters highlighting the methodologies and tools developed to improve flood management and flood risk reduction. Chapters in this important volume consider research on Emerging economies and developing countries and the case studies are focused in Malaysia, China and South-East Asia. The book presents key research from areas of the globe where flood management has not traditionally been studied but where the effects of climate change and natural disasters present huge challenges for societies in the region.

This volume, edited by leaders in the field of disaster management, would of be particular interest to students, researchers and policy specialists involved with examining flood related risk reduction methods and systems for key decision makers.

Azmi Aris is a Professor of Environmental Engineering and the Director of Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM. He specializes in water pollution control. He works closely with government and private agencies for the protection of the water environment and sustainable management of water resources.  

Nor Eliza Alias is a Senior Lecturer in School of Civil Engineering and a research fellow of the Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM. She is involved in national and international research and consultancies projects related to extreme rainfall events, flood, disaster management and climate change. 

Kogila Vani Annammala is a Senior Lecturer in School of Civil Engineering and a research fellow of the Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), UTM. Her research focuses on erosion and sediment sources and transport using natural and artificial sediment properties in exploring catchment response to disturbances. 

William L. Waugh, Jr., PhD, is Professor Emeritus in Public Management and Policy at Georgia State University. His books include Living with Hazards, Dealing with Disasters (2000), Emergency Management: Principles and Practice for Local Government, 2nd Edition (2007), and Recovering from Catastrophic Disaster in Asia (2017).
