Your Inbox Is Not Your Job: Attention Rules for Modern Work

Your inbox is full because modern work quietly turned messages into the default to-do list. Email and chat now carry tasks, decisions, approvals, coordination, and reassurance - and the price is paid in fractured attention. Your Inbox Is Not Your Job gives you a practical set of rules to treat messages as a tool, not a measure of productivity, so you can stay responsive without being permanently interrupted. Navin Sarkhel shows how to build inbox processing windows that protect real work, how to use priority triage to unblock what matters, and how to set calm response expectations that reduce anxiety on both sides. You will learn notification limits that stop the compulsive checking loop, plus simple writing structures that improve message clarity and cut down the costly back-and-forth that eats your day. For recurring situations, you will build templates that help you reply quickly without sounding rushed or robotic. This book is for anyone who feels pulled between being helpful and getting things done: managers juggling multiple threads, individual contributors trying to find uninterrupted time, and teams ready to improve how they communicate. With a focus on team communication norms and repeatable routines, it helps you reclaim deep work blocks, reduce inbox stress, and create a healthier, more predictable rhythm for modern work.
