The Inconceivable - My Experiences in World War II

On June 22, 1941 the lives of everyone living in Lvov (originally Poland but under the Soviet Union since 1939) changed dramatically as the Germans launched “Operation Barbarosa”. This is the personal story of one 15 year old Jewish boy caught up in the turbulent events that followed. With incredible intelligence, bravery, optimism and luck, but most of all with a resolute will to live, Jacob Friedman managed to survive the horrific years of WWII – while  always preserving his humanity and passion. In a letter addressed to his sister, when he was only 17 years old, Jacob wrote: “One needs for this a lot of courage and readiness to take risks. Never accept fate.”  This personal journey from city to city, from prison to prison, and from one concentration camp to another, rattles and carries the reader between extreme cruelty and sadism on the one hand and surprising, unexpected, exhibits of human compassion and  benevolence on the other. It ends with a journey to the newly established state of Israel and its struggle to survive during its War of Independence.
