A stated second printing, this book is in excellent condition--the only exterior flaws are a slight lean and lightly bumped head and heel of the spine (see photo). The interior is flawless--tight hinges, no writing, no marks, no stains, decorated end pages (this was done only for early prints of the first thirty titles in the series) and supple pages. The jacket has a bit of wear at both front panel corners, tiny chips at the head of the spine and a 1" tear on the front panel at the front gutter, with several small related folds. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. Growing up, I really enjoyed this series; however, as I got older, I realized that the series is rather narrow in its focus--few women, little technology, no real diversity (where is Sojourner Truth? or Cesar Chavez?) and lots of military.
