First published a decade prior, this is the very scarce second edition, with 'elaborate additions' according to the Dictionary of National Biography.Lacking the hand coloured folding map, as is frequently the case with this work.Alphabetically arranged, this work includes over 24,000 entries detailing key information about locations in England and Wales, and includes geographical coordinates for every place, calculated by triangulating the distances between places reported by his correspondents and between points indicated on earlier maps.ESTC R172081[6], A-4P2. Lacking spine label. Losses of leather to back strip head and tail, with rubbing to boards and back strip. Joints starting, with rear board firmly held. Lower two cords of front board broken, with board held by top three cords only. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Light tide mark to leaf following title page, with spotting and handling marks to title page. Pages otherwise bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. Good.
