A collection of research papers written by eminent economists and social scientists, this volume presents the contributions made at an international conference on the “Perspectives on Equitable Development,” organized by the Centre for Economic and Social Studies–Hyderbad. Focusing on different aspects of equitable development, the articles discuss six interrelated themes: macroeconomic performance and policies; employment, food security, and poverty; physical and social infrastructure; agriculture and rural industrialization; foreign direct investment in manufacturing and services; and sociopolitical issues in the reform process.
