About the Author

Jayanta Kumar Ray is a founder member of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies and is currently the Vice Chairman of its Executive Council. Previously he was the Centenary Professor of International Relations and Director, Center for South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta; Professor of Behavioral Sciences, Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi; and Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses. Widely published in a variety of areas within public and international affairs, he is also the President of the South Asia Research Society, Calcutta, undertaking a range of projects from rural poverty alleviation to law enforcement reform.
