A b&w steel engraving of 'The Indian Falls in West Point New York', situated in Garrison, NY. William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854), the renowned British illustrator and landscape artist, was famous for his views of all parts of the world which appeared in a series of travel volumes. Bartlett traveled to the United States and followed popular routes from New York City, along the Hudson River, the White Mountains, and Niagara Falls. From these travels came the works illustrated in 'American Scenery, or, Land, Lake, and River Illustrations of Transatlantic Nature', published by George Virtue in London in monthly installments from 1837 on. Bartlett's prints were a huge success; these finely detailed steel plate engravings were published uncolored. Steel engraving; image approximately 7 x 6", on paper approximately 10 x 8".
