About this Item

This is an early Indiana gazetteer with 20 full page plates and several text cuts. It contains a history of the state, details on cities, towns, villages, rivers, commerce, etc. Alphabetically arranged. The original calf covers are worn and joints are split with an old repair to inner front hinge which actually makes the book quite serviceable. There is foxing to the contents. Original leather spine label. This copy is listed as the third edtion, in a printing of 10,000 copies. The first edition was published in 1826 according to Sabin, and the 2nd edition in 1833. The text foxed as might be expected in a book of this vintage. This is an interesting early Indiana work. Ref: Sabin 78305, Howes S320. ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 440 pages.
