A sample book in black vinyl-covered cardboard boards and white stamped lettering. Contains directions for the steaming or nitrite process for application of Indigosol dyes to mercerized cotton material. 25 samples show the steaming process, while 25 more show the identical dyes, as applied via the nitrite process. Very little difference between the colors is apparent, though upon very close examination, the steaming process does appear to have held up slightly better over the last three-quarters of a century or more. Condition of most of the samples is near fine or better, but for five examples, stained in red by what must be some stray dye that spilled on the bottom left corner of the book. Each page of the book is soiled by this deep red-brown dye, thus hurting the condition. Two pages of the five fold-out boards are detached (as a single unit). But for these notable flaws, a very good set of striped cotton samples in attractive blue, purple, pink, and yellow shades. Seller Inventory # 647
