Individual Development from Three to Twelve: Findings From the Munich Longitudinal Study

This book describes the findings of a longitudinal study conducted with about 200 children from 1984 to 1993. Children were recruited for the study when they had just entered kindergarten at the age of about 4 years. The study aimed to investigate changes in cognitive, social, and personality development over the preschool and elementary school years. One of the unique features of this longitudinal study is that relationships and interactions among cognitive, social, and personality development could be assessed based on the data of a representative sample of children. This book describes the findings of a long-term, comprehensive longitudinal study conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Psychological Research in Munich from 1984 to 1993. Using a sample of about 200 children, the study sought to analyze developmental changes in the cognitive, social, and personality domain, and to explore possible interrelationships in developmental changes across domains. Children's cognitive, social and personality development was followed up on a regular basis (2-3 times a year) for about 9 years (until 1993).
