STOP GUESSING. START PROVING.
Industrial electrical troubleshooting becomes faster and more reliable when you know how to read the drawing, trace the circuit, take the right measurement, and prove the fault before replacing parts.
Industrial Electrical Schematics, Controls & Troubleshooting Handbook is a practical field guide for electricians, maintenance technicians, controls technicians, apprentices, and technical students who want to understand how industrial electrical systems are supposed to work—and what to do when they don’t.
Instead of treating schematics, control circuits, PLC I/O, VFDs, motors, and sensors as separate topics, this handbook brings them together into one practical troubleshooting system:
READ → TRACE → MEASURE → PROVE → FIX
You’ll learn how to move from a machine complaint to expected operation, follow the electrical path, choose meaningful test points, separate evidence from assumptions, prove the cause of failure, make the repair, and verify that the system is restored.
Inside, you’ll learn how to:
- Read one-line, three-line, ladder, wiring, and control diagrams
- Trace power and control circuits without losing the logic of the system
- Diagnose motor starters, contactors, relays, overloads, and control transformers
- Troubleshoot three-phase power problems, phase loss, imbalance, open conductors, and supply faults
- Understand and test sensors, switches, timers, solenoids, and field devices
- Use PLC I/O status, field wiring, and controller signals as part of the troubleshooting path
- Diagnose VFD systems by separating incoming power, command, drive output, motor, and mechanical load
- Use voltage, current, resistance, continuity, and other measurements with a clear purpose
- Work through complex schematics, interlocks, control sequences, and multi-page drawings
- Apply symptom-to-test decision trees and field-ready references to real service situations
- Avoid unnecessary parts replacement by proving the fault before you fix it
WHAT MAKES THIS HANDBOOK DIFFERENT?
It is built around a measurement-first diagnostic method—not guesswork, parts swapping, or memorized symptoms. The goal is not simply to recognize components. It is to understand what the machine should do, identify where the sequence fails, and use evidence to isolate the true cause.
Realistic troubleshooting cases reinforce the process across motors, pumps, fans, conveyors, compressors, PLC-controlled equipment, VFD-driven systems, sensors, interlocks, overloads, wiring faults, and intermittent problems.
Whether you are learning industrial controls or need a dependable field reference, this handbook is designed to help you troubleshoot with greater confidence, discipline, and speed.
If you are ready to stop chasing symptoms and start diagnosing industrial electrical faults systematically, this handbook belongs in your toolbox.
Get your copy today and build a troubleshooting process you can use from the schematic to the machine.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
