Industrial Relations, Vol. 3: Final Report and Testimony Submitted to Congress by the Commission on Industrial Relations Created by the Act of August 23, 1912 (Classic Reprint)

A historic snapshot of labor unrest and how a city sought peace and order during a major strike.

This volume presents firsthand testimony from the 1910s era of industrial relations, including hearings on longshore work in New York and related urban labor tensions. It offers concrete details about wages, work conditions, and the roles of employers, workers, and public authorities as they sought a balance between productivity and fair treatment.

• See how wage rates and shift patterns were discussed in port work, and what workers and organizers said about pay and hours.
• Learn how city officials, police, and investigators approached strikes and outsiders, and what actions they considered appropriate.
• Read about the questions examined by commissions, and the kinds of evidence and testimony that informed policy.
• Get a window into the broader debates on labor organization, union power, and employer-employee relations in the early 20th century.
