Two volumes; 6 1/8 inches x 9 1/4 in. x 1 1/2 in. (thick), xx, 380 pp.; xvii, 428 pp., including index; 13 illustrations, including, battle plans, maps, fold-out map in Volume Two, p. 117 (shows some damp to the top-edge). Black morocco leather spines, sides and corner-pieces, with five raised bands on the spine, with gilt titling, designs, and marbled paper over boards; marbled endpapers, top-edges gilt. Former owner's (Dreka) engraved, heraldic bookplates on the front marbled paste-downs: J. Amory Haskell [Jonathan Amory Haskell; 1861-1923]; the first volume has an engraved calling card, inserted: Mrs. James Howe Proctor. 195 Madison Avenue. Front cover of Volume One shows watering to the outer cover, damp to the flyleaves, some of the upper page margins, plate margins. Bindings show wear to the leather surfaces with light crackling to the spine of Volume Two, wear to cover corners; a few of the page fore-edges show careless opening, though quite a few pages are unopened.
