Doug Laney is vice president and distinguishedanalyst in the Chief Data Officer (CDO) researchand advisory team at Gartner, Inc. Dougresearches and advises clients on informationmonetization and valuation, open and syndicateddata, analytics centers of excellence, datagovernance, and Big Data-based innovation. Heis the author of Gartner's enterprise informationmanagement maturity model, has compiledseveral hundred real-world examples of the "artof the possible" with data and analytics, editedand co-authored an eBook on Big Data for theFinancial Times, and is a two-time recipient ofGartner's annual thought leadership award.

Around the turn of the millennium, Dougoriginated the field of Infonomics, developingmethods to quantify and harvest information'seconomic value, and positing how to applytraditional asset management practices toinformation assets. He lectures at leadingbusiness schools and conferences on thetopic, and his articles have appeared in Forbes,Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times.Throughout his career Doug held leadership roleswith global systems integrators and early-stagesoftware companies, and has been a Gartneranalyst for eleven years.

Doug lives outside Chicago with his wife andson where he bikes, cooks, plays competitivetennis and non-competitive golf, is a volunteerJunior Achievement instructor at a local grammarschool, coaches area entrepreneurs, and sitson the University of Illinois Department ofAccountancy advisory board.
