Information Ethics: Privacy and Intellectual Property

Information Ethics: Privacy and Intellectual Property provides an up-to-date discussion of the main ethical issues that face today's information-intensive society, including the areas of intellectual property rights, privacy, accessibility and censorship. The explosive growth of information technology, increased competition in the global marketplace, and the rush to use information in an effort to protect society from terrorism has led to the unintended erosion of rights and duties that are often considered fundamental. Through chapters written by some of today's leading information ethics researchers, this book provides the reader with a thorough overview of the current state of information ethics, the dangers and opportunities presented by information technology, and potential solutions to the risks currently faced by today's information society.

Dr. Freeman is an Assistant Professor of MIS and the Director of Distance Learning & Teaching in the School of Management at The University of Michigan – Dearborn. He has a B.A. from The University of Chicago, and he received both his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in Information Systems from Indiana University, the latter in 2000. His teaching interests include systems analysis and design, end-user computing, and electronic commerce; and his primary research interests include the conceptualization and use of information systems knowledge, systems analysis and design, and electronic commerce. He has published in MIS Quarterly, the Communications of the ACM, Information Systems Frontiers, the Journal of IS Education, and Communications of the Association for Information Systems, among others.

Dr. Peace is an Associate Professor of MIS at the College of Business and Economics, West Virginia University. He received his PhD in MIS from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. His teaching interests include Information Ethics, Systems Analysis and Design, eBusiness and Database Management Systems. Dr.Peace’s research interests include the ethical issues of Software Piracy, Privacy, Censorship and Freedom of Speech. He has had articles published on information ethics in several journals, including Communications of the ACM, the Journal of MIS, the Journal of Computer Information Systems, Business and Society Review, and the Journal of Information Ethics, and has presented papers on these topics at several conferences.
