Synopsis

The Inns of Old Southwark: And Their Associations is a historical book written by William Rendle and first published in 1888. The book provides a detailed account of the inns and taverns that were once located in the area of Southwark, London, during the 16th to 18th centuries. Rendle's work explores the history, architecture, and social significance of these establishments, which served as important meeting places for travelers, merchants, and local residents. The book also delves into the associations and societies that were formed within these inns, such as the Southwark Club and the Ancient Society of Cogers, which played a significant role in the cultural and political life of the area. With its comprehensive research and engaging narrative, The Inns of Old Southwark is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of London and its social and cultural institutions. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
