Inorganic Lab Manual

The book Inorganic Lab Manual provides handy information and necessary guidelines on how to conduct an experiment and write it down. The experiment where calculation is needed, has been presented with expected data and required calculation so as to facilitate understanding by the students.

The book includes qualitative inorganic analysis, separation and identification of cations/anions using paper chromatography, inorganic preparations, volumetric analysis, gravimetric analysis, and estimation of two constituents when present together.

This book has been designed to meet the demands of the students of B.Sc. and those pursuing M.Sc. in Chemistry covering the syllabi of all Indian universities. Its language is simple and easy to follow. Students can perform the experiments themselves and can also learn to write the experiments by following the book. The book contains complete theory, reasoning and reactions involved in each experiment.

In addition, the Appendix provides a list of reagents on students shelf and their preparations, a list of reagents on side shelf and their preparations, preparation of indicator solutions, a list of hazardous chemicals and their effects, measures in laboratory, first aid, remedies for a few chemical reagents, etc. The book with all these features will find favour not only with the students but also the teachers and the laboratory assistants.

S. Mumtazuddin is Professor in the University Department of Chemistry, B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur (Bihar). A gold medalist in B.Sc. (Hons.), he has a brilliant academic career throughout. He was awarded Junior Research Fellowship in 1982. He obtained Ph.D. degree in 1989. He was promoted to the rank of Professor in 1998 under Merit Promotion Scheme of UGC. He has been involved in teaching at P.G. level since 1984 and is actively engaged in research in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Microwave Induced Chemical Reaction, Phytochemistry and Environmental Chemistry. Dr. Mumtazuddin has published more than 20 research papers in national and international journals of repute. Thirteen students have completed their Ph.D. under his supervision. He has attended many national and international seminars including one at Douz, Tunisia in November, 2008. He is also a fellow/life member of several scientific organisations.

Shailendra Kumar Sinha is Lecturer in P.G. Department of Chemistry, L.S. College, Muzaffarpur (Bihar). He has teaching experience of 22 years. He has published many research papers in journals of repute. Dr. Sinha is co-editor of Journal of Haematology and Ecotoxicology. He has attended several national seminars/conferences and presented papers there. In addition, he is counsellor of IGNOU for Inorganic and Organic Lab Course.
