Illustrated with full page drawings and photographs. scarce historical survey of the inscriptions on the tombstones of the two oldest churches in Elizabeth, New Jersey. First Presbyterian Church was founded in 1664 and housed for many years the only English-speaking congregation in the colony and remains on the same site today; St. John's (Episcopal) was founded in 1706 and until 1855, both Episcopalians and Roman Catholics (including the parents of America's first Catholic Saint, Elizabeth Ann Seton) worshipped there.
