Insect-Plant Interactions

Plants and insects have engaged in a long evolutionary battle, leading to the development of sophisticated defense mechanisms and counter-adaptations. In recent years, advances in molecular biology, chemical ecology, and genomics have unveiled the underlying mechanisms governing insect-plant interactions, offering novel insights for sustainable agriculture and pest control. By compiling cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews, these two volumes provide a holistic understanding of plant-insect dynamics and their implications for ecology and agriculture.

Volume 1 offers an in-depth exploration of the complex insect-plant interactions by integrating perspectives from ecology, entomology, plant physiology, and agroecosystem management. It brings together cuttingedge research and comprehensive reviews to highlight both well-established concepts and emerging trends in insect-plant dynamics.

Volume 2 explores the diverse defense strategies plants employ to deter herbivorous insects, from structural adaptations to chemical defenses and molecular signaling pathways.

Jamin Ali, PhD, is a foreign research expert at Jilin Agricultural University in China, where he focuses on applied chemical ecology and sustainable pest management solutions. He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2024 Outstanding Postdoctoral Award in China and scholarships from Türkiye and the Indian government. Dr. Ali has authored several books and research articles in high-impact journals. He has presented his research at conferences and workshops in the UK, Kenya, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and India.

Adil Tonga, PhD, is a researcher at the Diyarbakir Plant Protection Research Institute, Türkiye. His focus lies in exploring the intricate interactions within trophic levels, investigating the relationships among plants, pests, and their natural enemies. A notable focus of his research involves selective insecticides that contribute to our understanding of the ecotoxicology of egg parasitoids, which helps to assess the compatibility of the insecticides within integrated pest management strategies.

Adnan Shakeel, PhD, is a molecular plant–nematode researcher at the Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal, India. Dr. Shakeel has undertaken postdoctoral training at Guangxi University (China) and CSIR–IIIM (India). He has published more than 30 articles along with book chapters and conference abstracts. He has been awarded the Inspire Faculty Award by the DST of the Govt. of India and Young Scientist Associate Award in Plant Nematology by the Agricultural & Environmental Technology Development Society (AETDS).

Nasheeman Ashraf, PhD, is a plant molecular biologist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Srinagar, India. Dr. Ashraf has been mainly working on the metabolite and apocarotenoid pathways of saffron plants in response to biotic and abiotic factors, including fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and endophytes. She has published more than 30 research articles in scientific journals. She has also received two international/national patents for her research and has received several international awards for her work.
