The grief of the Shi’a of Ahl-ul-Bayt (may Allah guide their steps and award them with honor) on the occasion of the slaying of Sayyidu-sh-Shuhada’ (lord of all martyrs), Imam Al-Husseyn (mercies of Allah be upon him), as well as for the rest of the calamities which befell Ahl-ul-Bayt (peace be upon them), and the resuscitation of the ceremonies and erecting the rituals of condolence, in which the Shi’a submerge themselves and seek the opportunities for holding them, are not arbitrary matters towards which the Shi’a were driven by sheer bigotry and attempts to sow discord; nor are they simply traditions they have inherited from their ancestors and which they have followed in the vein of these, as in the case of the rest of the traditions and habits some communities would engage in, for which Allah has revealed no warrant. In reality, these rituals are activities with genuine religious roots, in support of which sound and coherent evidence has been established, to which the Shi’a acquiesced and obviously withstood difficulties and disaster.
