Institutional Change and the Development of Industrial Clusters in China: Case Studies from the Textile and Clothing Industry

The book mainly uses the New Institutional Economics Approach (NIE) to examine the formation and development of industrial clusters in China through multiple case studies of textile and clothing clusters in the Zhejiang province. The micro case studies illustrate the interaction between institutional change and the industrial development of China in transition.

It also attempts to fill the information gap through an analysis of the typical institutional factors leading to the development and upgrading of industrial clusters, and provides a better understanding of the changing nature of the public-private interface in the process of cluster development in China.

Dr Jinmin Wang is Lecturer at School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, the University of Nottingham, the United Kingdom. He previously worked at Zhejiang University, East China and Nottingham Trent University, the United Kingdom. Jinmin has special research interests in regional development and international business management in contemporary China. He has undertaken a wide range of research projects including the role of specialized markets in the collective internationalization process of SMEs in rural China, the business model innovation of Norwegian and Spanish multinational companies in China. He has had consultancy experiences with some of the major international organizations such as the South Centre and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
