Add to basketAlice A. Bailey. From Intellect to Intuition. NY: Lucis Publishing Co., 1972, 8th. printing, viii, 275 pp. *** ?The purpose of this book is to deal with the nature and true significance of meditation and with its use on a large scale in the West. It is suggested that it may eventually supplant the present methods of memory training, and prove a potent factor in modern educational procedures.? Chapters include the following ? Purpose of Education; Nature of the Soul; Objectives of Meditation; Stages of Meditation (2); Intuition and Illumination; Universality of Meditation; Practice of Meditation; Need for Care in Meditation. Included with this book is an original bookmark with The Grand Invocation. *** Bailey was born in 1880 in Manchester, England. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1907 where she spent most of her life as a writer and teacher of esoteric knowledge. Much of her work, including the contents of this volume, were dictated to her telepathically by a mysterious Master of Wisdom initially known as ?the Tibetan? or as ?D.K?. In later years D.K. was revealed to be Djwal Khul. His physical existence has never been verified. At the end of W.W. I Bailey joined the American branch of the Theosophist movement. She quickly rose to prominence as a writer of Theosophist doctrines, but left with her husband after butting heads with leader Annie Besant, who wanted to take Theosophy in a different direction. Bailey and her husband founded their own organization, the Lucis Trust. Under this trust they began the Arcane School and the Lucis Publishing Co.
