frontis illustration; 8vo 8" -; 298 pages; Very Good+ This book contains two separate bilbliographies of books which were contained John Monteith. Richard and Monteith "worked establish a university for the Michigan Territory. Woodward named it the Catholepistemiad or University of Michigania and appointed Monteith, a Presbyterian as president and Richard, a Sulpician missionary as vice president. Both libraries were theologically oriented but contained many other books." The bibliographies are accompanied by essays describing each man, their book collections and their relationship to intellectual development in pioneer Michigan. Contains an index white cloth publisher's covers clean, tight and unmarked book previous owner names and no bookplates. The white pictorial dust jacket is lightly smudged on the rear panel panel, else it is has no chips, tears, or creases. The dust jacket is now in a protective, removable, acetate cover. 9" tall.
