Interior Design on Your Own: The Complete Guide to Home Decorating

A guide to home decorating features advice on selecting the right colors, patterns, and textures in wallpaper, fabric, and paints, creating a style, solving built-in problems, and other topics.

Each year dozens of interior design books are published, but few provide a basic understanding of how to achieve the look they propose. This practical guide for the amateur explains the principles, styles, and techniques of interior decorating. Room by room, Blake details the planning, design, and safety precautions to consider in decorating. She devotes a special section to solving design problems, such as gloomy passageways, and covers decorating styles from Colonial to Southwestern, presenting them in photographs and noting the details--color, furniture, and texture--that exemplify each style. Overall, an excellent selection for public libraries.
