Emma Serl's exceptional lessons on the English language are designed for those who desire to better their English skills through the use of practical examples of literature and poetry.

A total of 301 lessons inhabit this book, on subjects as diverse as letter writing, rules of grammar, composition of stories and poems, making conversations, and the correct usage of words. Serl is fond of using examples; poetic verse and pictures are included, that the reader can learn and practice the finer points of descriptive and expressive use of the English language. The book is designed for students of early secondary school age (11-14). However, it is also useful for students of English of any age seeking to improve beyond the beginner level.

When Serl was in her authoring prime, her workbooks were sought after by schools and bookshops for their straightforward manner of teaching, their effective use of propositions and questions to make the student think about their learning, and her impeccable selection of art and poetry to enrich the learning experience. Today, while Emma Serl's works are less popular, students of English seeking an alternative path to mastery of the language can do so by reading such books as Serl's.
