The book is a collection of best papers presented at the International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Applications (ICICA 2018), held at Velammal Engineering College, Chennai, India on 2–3 February 2018. Presenting original work in the field of computational intelligence and power and computing technology, it focuses on soft computing applications in power systems; power-system modeling and control; FACTS devices – applications in power systems; power-system stability and switchgear and protection; power quality issues and solutions; smart grids; green and renewable energy technologies; optimization techniques in electrical systems; power electronics controllers for power systems; power converters and modeling; high voltage engineering; diagnosis and sensing systems; and robotics.

Dr. M. Arun Bhaskar is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Velammal Engineering College, Chennai. He has received his PDF from Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa and PhD degree from SRM University, Chennai. He is having more than Twelve years of research and teaching experience. He has published more than 30 papers in National conferences, 36 Papers in International Conferences, 12 papers in IEEE CPS, 26 International Journals. His research areas are modeling of FACTS Controller, Voltage stability improvement, Design of non linear controllers for FACTS devices. He is a life member of Indian Society of Technical Education and member of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Dr. Subhransu Sekhar Dash is presently working as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar, Odisha, India. Hereceived his Ph.D. degree from College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. He has more than Twenty years of research and teaching experience. His research areas are Power Electronics and Drives, Modeling of FACTS Controller, Power Quality, Power System Stability and Smart Grid. He is a Visiting Professor at Francois Rabelais University, POLYTECH, France. He is the chief editor of International Journal of Advanced Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Dr. Swagatam Das received the B. E. Tel. E., M. E. Tel. E (Control Engineering specialization) and Ph.D. degrees, all from Jadavpur University, India, in 2003, 2005, and 2009, respectively. Currently, he is serving as an Associate Professor at the Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. His research interests include evolutionary computing, pattern recognition, multi-agent systems, and wireless communication. Dr. Das has published one research monograph, one edited volume, andmore than 150 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. He is the founding co-editor-in-chief of “Swarm and Evolutionary Computation”, an international journal from Elsevier. He serves as associate editors of the IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems and Information Sciences (Elsevier). He is an editorial board member of Progress in Artificial Intelligence (Springer), Mathematical Problems in Engineering, International Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, and International Journal of Adaptive and Autonomous Communication Systems. He is the recipient of the 2012 Young Engineer Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). He is also the recipient of the 2015 Thomson Reuters Research Excellence India Citation Award as the highest cited researcher from India in Engineering and Computer Science category between 2010 to 2014.

Dr. Bijaya Ketan Panigrahi is a Professor of Electrical and ElectronicsEngineering Department in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. degree from Sambalpur University. He is serving as a chief editor to the International Journal of Power and Energy Conversion. His interests focus on Power Quality, FACTS Devices, Power System Protection, and AI Application to Power System.
