Based on a 1986 conference at the University of Minnesota, the book is divided into three sections: introductory papers establishing major themes; geographically grouped papers addressing North America, South America, Europe, and Asia; and papers reviewing the present state of knowledge in interdisciplinary work. Throughout, the work addresses the problems and approaches to successfully managing research projects in government, private firms, and universities.

About the Author

Philip H. Birnbaum is a Professor at the School of Business Administration at the University of Southern California. Frederick A. Rossini is Vice Provost and Professor of Information Systems and Systems Engineering at George Mason University. Donald R. Baldwin is an Assistant Provost for Research at the University of Washington.
