Interpreters? Health and Wellbeing: An Overview Across Modes, Modalities and Settings (Routledge Advances in Translation and Interpreting Studies)

This collection highlights the importance of an in-depth exploration of occupational health and safety issues for professional interpreters, examining challenges and opportunities for the future. Interpreting requires broad knowledge, considerable expertise and skills, sound ethical principles, cognitive flexibility and psycho-physical resilience. Like other professionals, interpreters - no matter in what mode, modality and setting they work in - are exposed to occupational hazards, which are often underestimated.

This book provides a comprehensive overview on interpreters’ occupational health and safety issues, including suggestions about prevention and promotion of personal wellbeing. It is the result of a cross-disciplinary endeavour by interpreting researchers and occupational health specialists, with the aim to help practising interpreters to take their health and wellbeing into their own hands.

This book will be of interest to scholars and key stakeholders working or researching in interpreting.
