About the Author
Annie Ward is Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Mamaroneck Public Schools in Westchester County, NY. Prior to that, she was a Local Instructional Superintendent for the New York City Department of Education, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for the Ridgewood, NJ, Public Schools, and a middle school English teacher. She is the co-author of From Striving to Thriving: How to Grow Confident, Capable Readers (Scholastic).
Maggie Hoddinott is a reading interventionist and Reading Recovery teacher. In her current role as literacy ambassador, she works to ensure all students have rich, voluminous reading lives by coaching teachers, conducting workshops, curating classroom libraries, book matching directly with students, fostering connections with local families and organizations. She holds master’s degrees in elementary education and Deaf education as well as an advanced certificate in educational leadership.
Suzanne Carroll has been an educator for 16 years and has taught students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. She has held positions as a classroom teacher, a literacy coach and an RTI coordinator. Prior to teaching, Suzanne practiced law for several years, but her passion for reading and working with children led to her second career in teaching. Suzanne still uses her legal training to help her analyze and solve challenges that arise in her literacy work. Suzanne believes that a robust reading life is the foundation for academic success, and necessary ingredient for a well-rounded life.
