This collection of essays on the Palestinian uprising known as the "Intifada" was presented at a conference in December 1989 at the Baltimore Hebrew College. The papers have been organized into three sections: one deals with a comparative analysis to previous Palestinian political movements. The second part develops the role of the superpowers in Middle Eastern politics and examines American and Israeli Jewish attitudes towards the uprising. The third section is, perhaps, the real contribution: a discussion of the impact of the Intifada on the Israeli polity, society, and the Arab minority. There is a wide spectrum of views presented here, providing remarkable balance. Certainly worthy of study along with Intifada , edited by Jamal K. Nassar and Roger Heacock (Praeger, 1990), Yossi Melman and Dan Raviv's Beyond the Uprising (Greenwood, 1989), and Ze'ev Schiff and Ehud Ya'ari's Intifada ( LJ 3/1/90). For subject collections.
