Intimacy

As the daughter of a Catholic mother and a Jewish father, thirty-seven-year-old Cecilia grows up obsessed with the Church's rituals and her own overwhelming sense of guilt. She pursues her own bizarre form of penance by rubbing herself with poison ivy and throwing herself in front of speeding cars.

"Her voice distinctive, candid and witty, 37-year-old journalist Mary Cecilia Cronstein, the narrator of this accom plished first novel, obliquely relates the story of a life spent in search of salvation," said PW. "Chace reveals a probing intelligence and a compas sionate heart."
