Synopsis

Curated by noted architect and theorist Greg Lynn, Intricacy gathers work by artists, designers, and architects that reflects an emerging sensibility characterized by "highly complex compositions of an almost organic intricacy with macroscopic holism, coherence, and synthesis, and microscopic variation and diversity." Participants include painter Fabian Marcaccio, sculptor Tom Friedman, fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, and architects Peter Eisenman and Preston Scott Cohen.

About the Authors

Tom Friedman was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1965. His work was the subject of a traveling solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. He has also had exhibitions many times in Japan and Europe.

Born in Argentina in 1963, Fabian Marcaccio has exhibited worldwide, including at Documenta 11 in 2002 and major Biennials, and he had a major museum solo show in Cologne, Germany in 2000-01. He lives and works in New York.

David Reed is a painter who moved to lower Manhattan in 1971, where he continues to live and work. Touring exhibitions of his work originated at the Kolnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, Germany, in 1995; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, in 1998; and the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 2001.

"Greg Lynn has been an adjunct associate professor at Columbia University since 1990. He is presently the professor of spatial conception and exploration at the ETH in Zurich, the Davenport Visiting Professor at Yale University, and a studio professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. His office, Greg Lynn FORM, is working in collaborative partnerships with a variety of architects on a range of projects, including a line of international showrooms for PGLIFE.COM; the Cincinnati Country Day School in Cincinnati, Ohio; the Vision Plan for Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey; the Ark of the World Museum in Costa Rica; and the recently completed Korean Presbyterian Church of New York."

Foreign Office Architects (FOA) was founded by Farshid Moussavi and Alejandro Zaera-Polo in 1993. Based in London, FOA's most recongnizable project to date is the recently completed Yokohama International Port Terminal, in Yokohama, Japan.
