El presente manual ofrece una visi�n global del l�xico como fen�meno ling��stico. Trata de integrar diversas facetas de la lengua a trav�s de su observaci�n desde el l�xico, para acercarse as� "a la lengua por el l�xico" sin tener que recorrer los planteamientos generales que se logran ascendiendo desde la observaci�n fonol�gica, como manifestaci�n primera del fen�meno ling��stico, hasta los niveles discursivos. La teor�a del l�xico que aqu� se propone busca ofrecer una interpretaci�n unitaria de toda lengua natural y se fundamenta en las aportaciones recientes de los estudios que vinculan el l�xico con la gram�tica, con la pragm�tica y con los avances de la ling��stica cognitiva, adem�s de las descripciones sem�nticas y fonol�gicas de las unidades l�xicas, sin desconocer su peso en el procesamiento inform�tico de hoy.
