Introducing Structures: A Textbook for Students of Civil and Structural Engineering, Building and Architecture (Pergamon international library of science, technology, engineering & social studies)

Introducing Structures: A Textbook for Students of Civil and Structural Engineering, Building and Architecture discusses the fundamentals of structural action of different structures. The book aims to detail how structures act as organisms to transmit and resist forces, along with principles governing the synthesis of structures. The text covers the structural materials, structural action, collapse, flow of stress, flexural instability, and prestressing. The selection also covers several structural parts such as trusses, beams, plates, shells, and cables. The last three chapters cover the conceptual aspect of structures, such as general remarks on structural action, structural design, and lessons for structural failures. The book will be most useful to students of disciplines that deal with the design, construction, maintenance, renovation, and rehabilitation of buildings.
