An ephemeral Alcoholics Anonymous rarity from 1947. The first A.A. group in Philadelphia was established in 1940. It was known as the Philadelphia Group, and its early growth became one of the key examples of A.A. s expansion into major urban centers outside New York and Akron. The Philadelphia area quickly became a significant hub for A.A. activity during the 1940s. The present 10-page booklet introduces the reader to the Philadelphia chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous, explains what it means to be an alcoholic, and offers self-assessment questions to help readers determine if they fit that description. It then profiles the then seven-year-old "Philadelphia Group," describes its club rooms, outlines the elements of successful treatment, and concludes with guidance for relatives, friends, doctors, ministers, and local social agencies. This ephemeral rarity appears unrecorded; we find no copies traced in American institutional holdings or library catalogs.
