Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text contains minor marks/notes in pen. Binding is sound. In addition to a first edition of this important book, there is the added bonus of it having belonged at one time to William Constable Esq.(1721-1791), English naturalist , collector and scientist, Fellow of the Royal Society and Fellow of the Society of Antiquarians of London. His bookplate is on the front paste down. Full leather, gilt ruled, five raised bands on spine, xvi, 320 pages, [48], all plates present and in good condition. Corners and spine ends bumped with light wear, leather rubbed, leather worn along sides of spine, separation between top of spine and front board about one inch and at base of spine about an inch and a half, some slits in leather near top edge front cover, offsetting on title page from binding, interior pages have minor marks in blank margins (up to about page 10), top corners of about ten pages are creased, a few pages are chipped at top edge, comment in pen in bottom blank margin of Plate III key, minor occasional age spotting, Plate XII and Plate XII key have offsetting in margins from binding. On the front free end paper is a bookplate from The Library Company of Philadelphia, an independent research library which houses an extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts broadsides ephemera prints, photographs, and works of art. Founded in 1731 by Benjamin Franklin, The Library Company is America's oldest cultural institution and served as the Library of Congress from the Revolutionary War to 1800. It was the largest public library in America until the Civil War. This book was deaccessioned from their collection. There are no other library markings whatsoever. Quantity Available: 1.
