Introduction to Classical and New Genetics

The book describes history of genetics, giving brief account of Mendelian genetics, genome editing and genetic engineering. It also gives detail account of genetics of sex determination, population bottleneck and polyploidy with remark on evolution of species. The new genetics is called epigenetics, which revives Lamark's theory of acquired characters This fascinating new genetics studies are on the influence of environment and life style on the expression of genes and how those acquired epigenetic changes are inherited, giving examples in the light of recent researches on DNA modification. This new genetics started after the discovery of Watson and Crick model of DNA. Now the latest research on epigenetics are focused on environmental changes, behavior, stress, suicide, diseases, terrorism etc.
