Front pastedown with excised ownership inscription (?) and title page rubbed around the margins, now fully supported and not affecting text. John Spotiswood established Spottiswood's College of Law around 1703 to compensate for the lack of a legal curriculum at the University of Edinburgh, and first published the Stile of Writs in 1707 as a supplementary textbook to Sir George McKenzie's Institutes for the use of his students.
